A New Way to Fundraise

A new way to fundraise...where people eat to raise money for a cause they support. That's what stew is doing in Baltimore. The fundraiser dinner took place in an old church known as 2640. STEW was inspired by a national movement of grassroots fundraising solutions for community-supported projects. This idea started by Chicago's InCubate and spread to stock, in Portland, Oregon, and feast, in Brooklyn.
70 People attending the fundraising dinner which was $10 for a four-course meal. The food was donated by local farmers that were volunteers for the cause. Presentations by local organizations filled the time between each course. Each described what they do and why they need money to run their operation. When the presentations ended, the people voted on which group should receive the money. In this case, they voted that the three groups split the $700 that was raised.

Lessons I have learned on creating a Community

By being the founder of my own community website on Meditation I have learned many lessons on how to create a strong social network. The first thing I learned in order for a community to succeed is it have more than enought members. I found during the recruitment process that you have to be persistent. I had to send out many emails and facebook messages in order for people to actaully follow through. Sending a short email explained to people why they should sign up and ensuring them that the sign up process is only a quick one - just involving a quick registration and upload of a profile picture.

I have also learned to monitor my site and members with special attention to those that seem the most enthusiastic. These are the people that are willing to go above and beyond for the benefit of the community and that it is important to take their opinions and points of view into play to help them feel that they are needed. People are willing to do a lot if they are passionate about the subject. And those who were not so passionate about the subject were not as active as the others.

How to Win Friends and Influence People

How to Win Friends and Influence people is one of the top bestselling self-help books ever published. Author Dale Carnegie has sold around 15 million copies globally.

Certain topics that are discussed in the book are the fundamental techniques in handling people, 6 ways to make people like you, how to win people to your way of thinking and how to be a leader and how to change people without giving offense or arousing resentment.

The basic ways of handling people include not criticizing, condemn or complain. It is important to give honest and sincere appreciation.

Advice on ways to make people like you include becoming genuinely interested in other people. Smile is a very important aspect, (people like happy people). Remember a persons name - this is deemed very sweet and flattering to people. Being authentic and a good listener are also important. Making some one feel important and doing it sincerely is also necessary.

Highest Paid Designers

Before anybody answers Architect I will tell you now it is no highly paid at all (as I have been researching this question and that is a popular answer, I've also studied and worked in architecture and people always wrongly think I'm well off). Contrary to popular belief architects earn £30,000-£40,000 a year and perhaps more in London or in a senior role. You also have 5 years worth of education and 2 years work experience (RIBA framework) to get through first. It is not the most value for money but it's an enjoyable creative job that hardly repeats itself (every project being unique).

I suspect the highly paid design jobs are freelance jobs but they come with risks. It's not so much the profession with design but how high up the ladder you have climbed and the contacts you've made. If you're a director of a design firm then you could be earning around £100k+ per year depending on the profession.

Melinda Gates

Voted Second most creative person on Fast Company in 2010 because of her influence over the world's largest foundation is enormous -- Bill has said it wouldn't exist if it weren't for her. Maybe it should be called the Melinda & Bill Gates Foundation. She has championed not only big-picture, tech-oriented solutions to improve health and education over the long term but also more modest steps to help the poorest of the poor right now, such as distributing condoms. The foundation's latest surprise: funding health and education messages to be integrated into Viacom TV programming. Sneaky? Perhaps. Daring? For sure -- and that's what Gates, 44, expects of the foundation. "We will get out there and try something," she told Vogue this year. "If it doesn't work, we will try something else. And we will keep trying until we find something that works." --by Jeff Chu
